Kooperative für Darstellungspolitik

Exhibition Design

The Kooperative für Darstellungspolitik (Jesko Fezer, Anita Kaspar, Andreas Müller) engages in research into the representation of political and cultural concerns in the public sphere. It regards the spatial organisation of viewing behaviours as a contribution to public debate and a cultural method of both enquiry and persuasion. The politics of display contained in this approach locate these negotiations in spatial contexts and open up discursive social spaces.

Jesko Fezer, Anita Kaspar and Andreas Müller are former editors of the magazine An Architektur, they teach Experimental Design, Urban Development and Exhibition Design at different universities and have worked together at their studio for exhibition design since 2008. Collectively they design exhibitions, mainly in the cultural sector, including the Design Collection of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg, The Whole Earth, Anthropozän and Ape Culture for the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin and the travelling exhibitions Geniale Dilletanten and Games and Politics for the Goethe-Institut. They experiment with spatial forms of communication through temporary room-sized installations, including for three editions of the film festival Documentary Forum in Berlin, a pavillion in the urban space of Graz or a variable installation for performances at the Kunsthaus Bregenz, amongst others. For the Autostadt Wolfsburg they developed a process driven exhibition format and designed a series of so far seven exhibitions on the social relevance of design. For the documenta 14, they converted three cinemas into exhibition spaces. They designed new exhibition and office spaces for the art spaces Casco in Utrecht, Index in Stockholm and the foyer of the Kino Arsenal in Berlin. Current projects include the design for four exhibitions in the frame of bauhaus imaginista in São Paulo, Moscow, Hangzhou and Berlin, for Neolithische Kindheit at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Edit Film Culture for Savvy Contemporary Berlin and Food Revolution at the Berliner Kunstgewerbemuseum.
