Viridiana Zavala Rivera

Viridiana Zavala Rivera is a professor of Industrial Design History at Isthmus Escuela de Arquitectura y Diseño de América Latina y el Caribe outside of Panamá City. She attained her master degree in art history from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), and is currently working on her PhD dissertation at the same institution, conducting research on Hannes Meyer and Lena Bergner’s time in Mexico—in particular their participation in Taller de Gráfica Popular (TGP) and the Comité Administrador del Programa Federal de Construcción de Escuelas (CAPFCE). Currently, she is a guest researcher in the history department of the University of Chicago.

An active researcher who has participated in many academic publications and initiatives, books and national and international congresses and colloquies, Zavala was part of Museo Jumex’s curatorial team from 2015 to 2017. In 2015 she served as a guest researcher at MoMA New York’s Department of Architecture and Design. In addition to her academic research, Zavala is also a curator of contemporary art and writes for Nexos magazine on topics related to modern and contemporary art.
